Silver Samurai - Back To The 80's (2009) Self-released

Silver Samurai is a Polish rock band from Tychy that was founded in the year‭ ‬2005‭ (‬with some personnel changes in‭ ‬2006‭)‬.‭ ‬The band debuted with‭ “‬Back To The‭ ‬80‭’‬s‭” ‬and it was recorded in the following line-up:‭ ‬Adam‭ ‘‬Blackie‭’ ‬Bała‭ (‬vocal‭)‬,‭ ‬Andrzej‭ ‘‬Andy‭’ ‬Domżoł‭ (‬lead and solo guitar‭)‬,‭ ‬Tomasz‭ ‘‬Tommy‭’ ‬Cedzyński‭ (‬bass‭) ‬and Mateusz‭ ‘‬Mazir‭’ ‬Mazur‭ (‬percussion‭; ‬known from another group Kaiser Waltzer‭)‬.

The band’s name comes from one of X-Men’s enemies‭ (‬Blackie is keen on comic books‭)‬.‭ ‬Silver Samurai,‭ ‬in‭ ‬2009,‭ ‬played about‭ ‬30‭ ‬club and open air concerts‭ (‬e.g.‭ “‬Dni Tyskie‭” – ‬as opener for Hey‭; “‬Żubrowisko‭” – ‬before Cree‭; ‬in the end of motorcycle season in Bielsk and rallies in Częstochowa‭)‬.‭

Back To The‭ ‬80‭'‬s‭” ‬starts with the opening rocker‭ “‬Na zawsze szaleni”‬.‭ ‬It consists of catchy vocal lines and appealing choruses.‭ ‬One of the strongest points of the track is excellent guitarwork and melodic solo part, ‭ ‬making this cut a rock hit.‭ ‬Another melodic rock blockbuster is‭ “‬Nie zmienisz mnie” ‬with a bit of progression in riffs and one of the most outstanding guitar solos on the album.‭ ‬Another melodic rocker is‭ “‬Ostatni buntownik‭” ‬with obligatory guitar solo and a great dose of melodiousness within.‭ ‬“‬Back To The‭ ‬80‭'‬s‭” ‬is not unified musically.‭ ‬There are also classic hair metal tracks like‭ “‬Ogień”‬,‭ “‬Lucy‭” ‬and‭ “‬She's From High School‭”‬.‭ ‬There are also two contrasting songs:‭ “‬Alone‭” – ‬a balladish tune with very accessible chorus and‭ “‬Tak jak lubię‭” – ‬the most dynamic rocker with heavy riffs.

Take a glance at the front cover:‭ ‬a Ford Mustang and an American chick on its hood.‭ ‬Even though there are only three songs in English,‭ ‬every listener can sense a specific‭ “‬laid back‭” ‬atmosphere in each track.‭ ‬The musicians transfer their optimism through every song and refer to the golden‭ ‬80s‭ (‬as the album’s title indicates‭)‬.‭ ‬Their image is also a direct reference to hair and glam metal bands from the USA.‭ ‬Lyrics cannot always be taken seriously.‭ ‬Polish musicians have much happiness and fun producing such a kind of music in the commercial‭ ‬21st century.‭ ‬There are no philosophical messages hidden in texts.‭ ‬As far as musical and non-musical components are concerned,‭ ‬here are distinctive riffs,‭ ‬catchy melodies,‭ ‬memorizeable choruses and the image typical of melodic rock bands in the‭ 80s.‭ ‬The stuff is very accesible in its reception.‭ ‬Although it is an independent release,‭ ‬it was well-produced in Rapid Fire Studio.‭ ‬If you mix Zanderhaus with Lessdress and add much more melodies,‭ ‬you’ll get something that is called Silver Samurai‭!

CAUTION‭! ‬There were ca.‭ ‬200‭ ‬copies independently pressed and its circulation is running low.

Many thanks for your kind words, Kissmar! This is just the beginning! I'll try to write about both well-known artists as well as totally forgotten! From Slavonic countries (former USSR, former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, the Balkans, Latin-American and Asian groups). Hope you like it:)
