Martin Phipps - Small Island (OST) (2009) MovieScore Media

Martin Phipps is an UK composer and Benjamin Britten’s godson. He is mostly known for his TV series’ scores („Eureka Street“ 1999, „North & South" 2004, „The Virgin Queen“ 2005, „Persuasion“ 2007, „Oliver Twist“ 2007, „Wallender“ 2008) and film music („Pierrepoint“ 2005, “The Flying Scotsman“ 2006, “Harry Brown“ 2009, “Endgame“ 2009). Martin Phipps received an Emmy nomination for the music to „Sense and Sensibility“ TV series (2008).

Small Island“ is the BBC drama series based on the novel by Andrea Levy. Martin Phipps wrote very invigorating, illustartive and as gentle music as velvet. The score is both calm as well as moving (especially in its parts performed by stringed instruments). An original concept is applying of dulcimer and rattles which are rarely used instruments in scores. Apart from prevailing symphonic parts, there are also acoustic fragments. This score is like a relieving medication for people who feel lost in this mad and blindfold-driving world. A great music for reflections.
